Shared vision for a better world: Spotlight on SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals
About
Each year on 14 October, members of the IEC, ISO, and ITU celebrate World Standards Day (WSD) — a global tribute to the collaborative efforts of thousands of experts who develop voluntary technical agreements published as international standards. The day serves as an opportunity to raise awareness and deepen understanding of the importance of standardization. As a joint initiative of the three organizations, WSD brings together the global community through annual campaigns that highlight how standards shape a safer, more sustainable, and interconnected world.
About International Standards
International Standards are a cornerstone of global collaboration, ensuring interoperability, fostering trust, and accelerating multi-stakeholder cooperation to drive sustainable development.
Why they matter for the SDGs
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) embody a shared vision for peace, prosperity, and the well-being of both people and the planet. Each goal is a call to action, achievable only through collaboration. International standards provide practical, widely accepted solutions that support this collective effort. Achieving the SDGs requires the active participation of all sectors of society — from local and national governments to businesses, industries, and individuals. Success depends on consensus, cooperation, and innovation. Standards developed by the IEC, ISO, and ITU serve as globally recognized guidelines, offering actionable frameworks for each goal. They are indispensable tools that enable governments, industry, and consumers to make meaningful contributions toward realizing all 17 SDGs.
A quote from Tan Sim Bee, Senior Certification Manager, GICG
“At GICG, we believe that standards don’t limit innovation — they enable it. By upholding global benchmarks, we help businesses build safer, smarter, and more sustainable futures.”
GICG’s Commitment to Standards
At GICG, we champion the importance of international standards through our testing, inspection, and certification (TIC) services.
