This course is an advanced course to Environmental Management Systems (EMS) where learners will acquire the knowledge and skills to plan and conduct third-partyrd EMS audits including act as an audit team leader to manage audits effectively.

What do you need to know prior to enrolling

  • Understanding of the concept of environmental sustainable development
  • Understanding of the purpose of an initial environmental review
  • Evaluation of activities, products and services to establish environmental aspects associated with normal operating conditions, abnormal conditions such as start-up and shutdown, plus emergency situations and accidents.
  • Consideration of environmental aspects with respect to: emission to air, release to water, release to land, use of raw materials, natural resources and energy, energy emitted and lost, public nuisance… etc.
  • Understanding of environmental legislation and how legal compliance forms part of an environmental management system
  • Understanding of typical evaluation methods of the impact of the environmental aspects identified and how their ranking influences operational control and priorities for improvement
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 requirements and commonly used terms and definitions

Learners that are not familiar with the purpose and intent of the ISO 14001 should complete an CQI and IRCA Certified EMS Foundation Training course or equivalent, prior to attending this one

Delivery Methodology

  • A 40-hour virtual classroom course delivered over five days or
  • A 40-hour traditional face-to-face classroom course delivered over five days

This course is structured with the majority of time being spent on activity-based learning. There are many group exercises, workshops and case studies for discussions, presentations and interactions between learners and tutors.

The virtual classroom courses are delivered in real time via our online platform and provide learners with the flexibility of attending from a convenient place, without the requirement of traveling. However, the examination is required to be taken physically within one month of completing the course.
