GICG will join organizations around the world to celebrate World Accreditation Day (#WAD2023) on 9 June 2023.

It is a global initiative established by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) to promote the value of accreditation.

The theme for WAD 2023 is:
Accreditation: Supporting the Future of Global Trade

This year’s theme, Accreditation: Supporting the Future of Global Trade also focuses on how accreditation supports the future of global trade and supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 9, 10, 14, and 17.

• SDG 1: No Poverty: End poverty in all its forms everywhere.
• SDG 2: Zero Hunger: End hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.
• SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
• SDG 5: Gender Equality: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
• SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth: Promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all.
• SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation.
• SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities: Reduce inequality within and among countries.
• SDG 14: Life Below Water: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development.
• SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.

By promoting awareness and understanding of accreditation, World Accreditation Day contributes to building trust and confidence in products, services, and systems, ultimately supporting global trade, consumer protection, and sustainable development.

Accreditation along with other quality infrastructure tools such as metrology, standardisation, conformity assessment and market surveillance can support the implementation of the SDGs. Use of standards can help organisations adopt more sustainable practices, with accredited conformity assessment providing assurance that organizations are meeting requirements and fulfilling social accountability.
